Week 1: Introduction

\

1. 1. If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?
If I wrote a book about my life, I would name it “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow”. The reason I selected this name is I like to travel and experience different cultures. Whenever I catch up with friends that I haven’t seen in a while, the first thing they typically say to me is, “where is your next trip to?” This name definitely ties in with my wanderlust persona.

2. Tell us one of your favorite joke.
Teacher to Paul: “Wake up, Paul! You can’t sleep in class!”
Paul to teacher: “I could actually, it’s just that you’re a bit loud.”

3. Tell us what subject you teach, years of teaching, and how far you are in the Teacher Education or MSIT program.
This is my third semester at NYIT in the Childhood Education program, I am also hoping to obtain an extension in Early Childhood. I haven’t started teaching full time, however, I hope to begin teaching full time this fall. My preference will be to teach K-2nd grade.

4. How much do you know about teaching language arts?
I don’t know too much about teaching language arts for the exception of the observations I was able to complete for previous courses. I know that there are quite a few techniques that teachers must utilize when teaching students.

5. How much do know about "new literacies?"
New literacies are techniques that provides students an innovative way of learning while utilizing technology within the classroom. Some examples of new literacies are Blogging, Book Builder, podcasting and video making. These softwares provides students an opportunity to learn and build on some of their talents and interests by engaging in a learning community.

6. What are your concerns about taking this course?
I don’t have any concerns with this course, however, I know the spring time is typically a busy time at work for me. I'm jugging three courses in addition to observation hours and working full time. I'm hoping to form a deal in which i will be able to teach full time next year!
