Week 3: Assignment 3

  • What is QRI5?
Qualitative Reading Inventory-5 (QRI-5) is an informal assessment of how student interpret text and their ability to identify words through text. By utilizing QRI-5, you are able to identify conditions such as the result of word identification and comprehension.
  • What is the purpose of using QRI5?
QRI5 provides assessments that gives teachers access to the student reading levels and results to group students for guided reading. Teachers will also have the ability to create and evaluation tools for instruction.
  • Have you seen similar assessment activities like QRI5? What are they?
  • When I've previously worked with 1st graders, Ms. Sarah utilize a number of assessment activites such as, dividing students and having them review pictures and reading aloud as their peers follow along. After reading the excerpt, students who have to retell to show their level of comprehension based on what they read. Students who struggled with word identification, would look at the picture and try to guess what the appropriate words are when they have difficulty. Next, the teacher would ask students questions such as, why do you think the (insert character name) felt sad? By asking questions, this would provide students who have difficulty retelling stories an opportunity to show their comprehension.
  • What is your impression of QRI5?
I think QR15 is a great way to keep students engaged and to find out how students make correlations to text and identifying literature. After completing her tactics, Ms. Sarah would discuss with me ways she would implement and make adjustment to lesson plans, increase visual learning, read aloud and focusing on sounds with students through flash card games.
