Some reading basics that I’ve learned is the important roles
that parents play to introduce their kids to sounds and words. By introducing
sounds and words to students early in life, they will assimilate into the
classroom easier and expand on their ability to differentiate various sounds
and letters. When talking to infants, you are providing them the basics they
will utilize in the future when reading. During one of lesson plans in the
video, students practice on how they can switch letters to identify different
words and make connections with sounds. In the fluency video, the teacher
explores the different meanings of words by making a connection to everyday
activities and things students visually see and experience. Another way you may
develop a fluency program is to help students understand the relationship of
words by connecting them with similar words or descriptive words that describe
the actual word (i.e. large and big).
Jigsaw strategy is an interesting concept that I haven’t had the
chance to observe. Essentially, each student become an expert in one area and
go back to their home group and share with their classmates. By having students
focus and develop one area, it provides them an opportunity to focus on one
areas and perfect their understanding and teach their fellow groupmates.
Students are able to ask questions and pull facts from the passage. They select
key facts and arrange ideas by highlighting the supportive details to report.
Please post week 3 assignment. :)
